The Kilmurry Ibrickane man first joined the panel in 2004 under John Kennedy, winning the Tommy Murphy Cup in his first year.
Coughlan also played a key role in the Banners march to the Division Three title and All Ireland Quarter Final this year.
He will continue playing with Kilmurry, after a year that saw him win his 7th Clare Senior Football title.
Clare FM analyst Joe Garry says Coughlan has been a great servant to Clare football.
