Deilght For Dublin At Croker

Dublin have lifted Sam Maguire for the first time in 16 years, beating Kerry on a scoreline of 1-12 to 1-11 at Croke Park this afternoon.

In a pulsating game, only one point seperated the teams at the break – Colm Cooper had netted a goal after a Declan O’Sullivan run but the Kingdom still trailed 0-06 to 1-02.

Kerry had the better of proceedings in the second half, and with minutes to go held a four point lead.

There was to be no fourth title in six years for the Kingdom however.  Kevin McManamon netted a goal and Bernard Brogan scored a point and suddenly the sides were level.

The sides exchanged points once more before Dublin won a free kick forty metres from goal deep into injury time.

Stephen Cluxton was the man for the kick, and the goalkeeper held his nerve kicking the game’s final score, appropriately, into the Hill 16 end.
