Loughnane on road to recovery after cancer battle

Former Clare Hurling  Manager Ger Loughnane is confident  that he is on the road to recovery after his battle with Leukaemia.

Speaking today the double all Ireland winning manager says he is hopeful that the disease will not return following months of  intensive treatment in Dublin.

The Feakle native was dignosed with cancer last June which led to  widespread shock in his home county as well as across Ireland.

In an interview in today’s Irish daily star the double All Ireland winning manager has revealed the intense nature of his treatment in St James in Dublin.

The primary school principal endured four different forms of cancer treatment each lasting approximatly six weeks but has warned that despite feeling well there is no such thing as an all clear.

He has also revealed that he intends to now take early retirement form his job at St Aidan’s in Shannon.

Loughnane also hit out at rumours of his death which circulated just weeks after his diagnosis last summer and  said it was the lowest point of his illness.

The former all star has also spoken of his surprise and gratitiude  at the level of support he received from gaa people across Clare and the country,especially Kilkenny manager Brian Cody.

The 58 year old’s  treatment is now completed and is looking forward to regaining his strength ahead of the forthcoming gaa season.
