Tipp edge Waterford in Munster final

Its been a busy day of Gaelic Games action around the country with provincial crowns in both codes up for grabs.

Tipperary secured back to back Munster Hurling titles, goals from John O’Brien and Shane Bourke helping them to a 2-17 to 16 point victory over Waterford in Pairc Ui Chaomih.

While in the day’s other provincial decider, Mayo retained their Connacht Football title, defeating Sligo by 12 points to 10 in Dr Hyde Park.

In the three Round 2 qualifiers meanwhile, Laois defeated Monaghan 2-12 to 12 points in O’Moore Park.

Westmeath came desperately close to staging a massive upset against Kerry, Jack O’Connors men getting out of Mullingar with a 1 point victory on a scoreline of 2-10 to 1-12

While in Kingspan Breffni Park, Kieran McGeeney’s Kildare hammered Cavan 3-20 to 1-9. Seanie Johnstone came off the bench to make his Kildare debut in that one.
